Coscan Homes Charitable Work Helps Build Communities
Fort Lauderdale-based Coscan Homes one of the largest developers in South Florida, has been involved in helping the community for the past 30 years. Headed by owners Al Piazza, president and Mike Neal, the company has been responsible for raising incredibly large sums of money for a variety of cultural and charitable organizations in town.Says Al Piazza, CEO of Coscan Homes: “Coscan Homes is proud to act not only as a developer but as an educator and a supporter of the arts and charitable organizations. Throughout our 30 year history, we have felt a sense of responsibility to be dedicated and committed to the communities in which we build.”
The company has set an exemplary standard of giving back to the community by having hosted and/or underwritten events for organizations such as: Project Newborn, WIZO, Dressed for Success, The Miami Billfish Tournament which raises money for conservation and environmental research, The Children's Home Society of Florida, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, The Florida Breast Cancer Coalition, The Women's Fund of Miami Dade County, The Unicorn Children's Foundation of Palm Beach, The Brazil/USA Cultural Center, The Founders of Mount Sinai Medical Center, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Colombian Volunteer Ladies, Operation Smile, The Humane Society, Share Our Strength, The School of the Performing Arts of Miami Beach, The Cultural Arts Council of Bal Harbour Village, The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and The Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program, which was founded in 1997 by television journalist, Jennifer Valoppi and Telemundo President & CEO Don Browne to inspire, motivate and empower at-risk young women in our public high schools.
Coscan also offers two scholarships every year called the Coscan Homes Scholars Program Scholarships at the College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University. These scholarships were created in November 2003 to expand educational opportunities for superior students in need of financial help who are seeking a career in construction management.
At Orchid Grove, Coscan is following this tradition, by going the extra mile in enhancing the lifestyle of residents who choose to live in this 36 acre town home community. Coscan has entered into an agreement with the City of Pompano Beach to build landscape and maintain a Children’s Playground on city property adjacent to the SW corner of the property. Pompano Beach Commissioner Lamar Fisher is thrilled with this partnership. “Building the park was a contingency for developing this property that I fought for way back—even before Coscan got involved. I am delighted that Coscan will be following through on this endeavor and we appreciate their generosity. This children’s park is an example of a true public/private partnership that will benefit the entire community,” says Fisher.
The ¼ acre playground will provide all kinds of fun activities for youngsters—everything from the traditional slide to a giant maze composed of different levels, paths and tunnels that spark the imagination and create great adventures. In addition to a tot lot, there will be a shady-gazebo-style area with park benches—very “mom friendly” and a water fountain for that much needed drink of water when you are playing hard. The fountain will also serve as a resting place and water stop for everyone who will be using the mile long walking/jogging path that runs around the perimeter of Orchid Grove.
The park will be fully sodded and beautifully landscaped with foliage such as Mahogany, Gumbo Limbo, Fox Tale Palms, Hibiscus, Jasmine and Coco Plum, which reflect the tranquil and intimate atmosphere at Orchid Grove. The Burrowing Owl Habitat, another part of the park, will be away from the action and surrounded by shrubs so that the owls who reside there can burrow in a peaceful atmosphere.
