Artech Condominium is Topped Off

AVENTURA, FL—January 30, 2007—Coscan Construction, the general contractor for Artech Condominium at Aventura, a nine-story, 232 unit waterfront luxury condominium being developed as a joint venture by Shefaor Development and Fortune International in Aventura, recently threw a topping off party for the construction workers on the project.

A topping off party, a tradition in the construction industry, is an event that signifies that the top of the luxury residential structure has been reached without mishap. According to a Scandinavian legend that started more than 1,000 years ago, it is customary to place a tree on the roof during the topping off party as a way to appease the spirits and ensure good luck. The early Scandinavians believed that the gods and the spirits of their ancestors lived in the trees that the people used to build shelters. So to prevent the homeless spirits from becoming angry and cursing their work, they placed a tree atop each new building as an offering of a new home for the displaced spirits.

The party started at noon with all construction coming to halt at noon and hundreds of workers gathering on the site to eat a grandiose bar-b-que buffet, enjoy the music of a DJ and have a chance to win some spectacular prizes donated by the sub-contractors on the project. The joint really jumped and everyone had a rollicking’ good time.

Says Mike Neal, president of Coscan Construction: “This is a way for us to show our appreciation to the construction guys and sub-contractors for their hard work and a job well done. It means that the job is being completed on time and safely.”
